The position will require excellent physical model making and full-scale mockup fabrication skills. The best candidate will have demonstrated enthusiasm for digital fabrication within architecture, a strong sensibility to how things are made, and curiosity to innovate with new materials.

Skills + Experience • Demonstrate an aptitude for problem solving. • Utilize digital fabrication technologies in a creative capacity that advances our capabilities for models and mockups. • Use of digital fabrication equipment such as 3d printers, laser cutters, and 3axis CNC mills as well as traditional woodworking and machining tools. • Research and report on new digital fabrication technologies, materials, and making methods. • Possess working knowledge of, and curiosity for: new materials, model making skills, and digital fabrication techniques. • Explore system and material assemblies through model making and full-scale prototyping. • Ability to translate schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts or plans to 3D physical representations.

Presentation & Communication • Convey with strong graphics presentation skills on fabrication intent and assembly sequence. • Discuss fabrication and making approach within your team, and in review settings with team Director.

Coordination • Incorporate input from the project design team into the making process. • Communicate and coordinate with project design team directly. Guide the design team towards creative solutions that is most effective in representing overall project design intent. • Build experience collaborating with outside fabricators and specialists for outsourced components.

Team & Project Management • Manage and complete tasks that have been delegated to you in a timely manner. • Initiate design, research, and development related to assigned tasks that augment or advance the direction given. • Demonstrate and ability to prioritize when given a list of simultaneous time sensitive tasks to properly plan work that needs to be completed against project timelines.

Collaboration • Desire to participate in office-wide initiatives related to fabrication research and education. • Contributes to feelings of safety within their team and is a positive ambassador of SHoP.

Qualifications • 3D printing experience • Laser cutting experience • CNC milling experience • Woodworking & metal working experience • Traditional model making techniques • Software skills: Rhino, RhinoCam, Grasshopper, PreForm, ideaMaker, Adobe Suite Programs • Additional preferred software skills: Fusion360, KUKA|prc
